The huge increase in the number of cars on the road in combination with the organically grown city of Bangalore has caused nowadays’ congestion. A collaboration between the city of Bangalore and Amsterdam is formed to look for solutions.
To relieve the city of this congestion, government organisation DULT, is focussing on the revival of cycling to make the transition towards sustainable urban mobility. Because of the moderate climate, relatively compactness of the city and the limited height differences, Bangalore is an ideal city for cycling.
DULT has requested help from the City of Amsterdam to develop a masterplan for the implementation of cycling infrastructure and policies. A coalition of government, enterprises and knowledge institutes have responded to this request and offered their wide range of expertise, ranging from process management to electric bicycles and from bike-sharing systems tot urban design.
What we need
So far, the discussion is on the price. DULT has no experience contracting a foreign partner for consultancy work in infrastructure. The coalition is therefore looking for funding possibilities both in The Netherlands and India.
